Tourism: €109 million to make Italy's offer greener, smarter and less seasonal

The Ministry of Tourism has published a decree in the Official Gazette making €109 million available — €59 million in grants and €50 million in concessional loans — for energy retrofits, innovation and digitalisation of tourism facilities.

  • Funding mix: non‑repayable grants and subsidised loans for operators and property owners in the tourism sector.
  • Goals: improve energy efficiency, promote renewable self‑consumption, deploy smart technologies and reduce seasonality of tourist flows.
  • Eligible interventions: thermal insulation, window replacement, renewable energy systems and storage, building automation, internal cabling and EV charging points, plus upgrading of conference centres and thermal/wellness facilities.
  • Beneficiaries: businesses with tourism ATECO codes, tourism‑prevalent enterprises, property owners meeting management requirements, and networks of up to five firms under a contract of network.

According to the decree, applications may be submitted starting 20 April 2026. The Official Gazette text sets out eligibility criteria, eligible costs and application procedures. The measure aims to boost year‑round competitiveness of Italian tourism through efficiency, sustainability and digital innovation.
