Italy Together at the Leopolda: ideas and best practices for accessible tourism

On Wednesday 22 April at Florence's Stazione Leopolda the event Italy Together - Accessible Tourism and Territory brought together institutions, local authorities, associations and sector operators to discuss how to make travel, mobility and leisure accessible to everyone.

  • When and where: Stazione Leopolda, Florence – 22 April 2026.
  • Goals: improve accessibility in museums, beaches and cultural routes; promote labour inclusion in tourism; enhance training and hospitality quality.
  • Sessions: Cultural heritage and accessibility; Leisure for all; Employment inclusion in tourism; Services for truly accessible tourism.
  • Actions highlighted: the Bilt network (Beauty, Inclusion, Work, Talents), publicly funded good practices, and a protocol signed with Cittàslow Italy to spread accessible tourism models among member municipalities.
  • Figures mentioned: the minister for Disabilities referenced annual funding (reported €50 million) and training initiatives, including some 560 internships activated.

The event underlined the need for integrated approaches linking mobility, reception and services, and the importance of associative networks and local institutions in making tourism more inclusive. As the minister put it, “Travel is a right”, a principle to be translated into concrete policies and local projects.
