Museum of the Great Rivers: 25 years preserving the identity of the Polesine area

The Museo dei Grandi Fiumi in Rovigo marked its 25th anniversary with a three-day programme that brought together visitors and local institutions. The events highlighted the museum's role in safeguarding regional identity and promoting the archaeological and environmental heritage linked to major waterways.

  • Travelling photographic exhibition of the Provincial Museum System, open to the public until Sunday 26 April 2026;
  • Talk "Grandi Fiumi 2001-2026. Twenty-five years of a museum in continuous evolution" featuring accounts of the institution's history and development;
  • Free guided tours of the museum's displays, with special attention to Gabbris Ferrari, a key figure in the museum's foundation;
  • Choral performances and family activities, including the animated visit "Amber between myth and history" exploring local history and the myth of Phaethon.

The closing day included institutional representatives and international guests as part of events tied to the Romania-Italy Cultural Year. To plan the next quarter-century, the museum is asking citizens and visitors to fill in a short questionnaire on the Comune di Rovigo website; the feedback will inform future strategic programming.

The Museo dei Grandi Fiumi was inaugurated on 20 April 2001 with an initial section dedicated to the Bronze Age and has since refreshed its exhibitions to reach a growing and diverse audience.
