Concert for Niscemi: music and solidarity at Monreale Cathedral (UNESCO World Heritage)

Soroptimist International of Italy, together with the Palermo Club, presents a benefit concert at Monreale Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The event aims to raise funds for reconstruction and prevention projects to support the community of Niscemi, severely affected by the landslide of January 26.

Date & time: Wednesday 22 April 2026, 8:45 PM. Free admission with voluntary donation; proceeds will be allocated to projects in the Niscemi area.

  • Venue: Monreale Cathedral, UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • Purpose: fundraising to create a classroom and a laboratory focused on territorial fragility studies for Niscemi.
  • Organisers: Soroptimist International of Italy and the Palermo Club.
  • Attendees: civil and religious authorities, associations and the general public.

The programme features young award-winning performers from the "Young Female Music Talents" competition. The opening violin set includes works by Bach, Paganini and Ysaye; the concert continues with marimba and vibraphone pieces, a cello performance in duo with piano, and a virtuosic piano programme including Haydn and Liszt. The combination of live music and the cathedral's mosaics and gilded decorations provides a powerful setting for tangible community support.

Practical tips:

  • Arrive early to secure seating inside the cathedral.
  • Consider making a voluntary donation to support initiatives for Niscemi.
  • Respect the venue's rules and the sacred nature of the site during the concert.

This initiative highlights how cultural heritage and UNESCO sites can host events that combine artistic excellence and social responsibility.
