Italian Basketball Museum opens in Bologna: inauguration on April 18

On Saturday, April 18, 2026 the Italian Basketball Museum (MUBIT) will open its doors in PalaDozza, Bologna. The opening day includes a public celebration in Piazza Azzarita featuring activities for all ages, on-court events and basketball-themed initiatives.

Festival hours: from 10:30 to 22:00 in the square. Free museum tickets for the opening day sold out quickly, but attendees can still win tickets by taking part in on-site games and competitions.

  • Courts in the square: three basketball courts set up in front of PalaDozza; the central court is for free play under steward supervision, while the side courts host organized competitions.
  • Mini-basket: 10:30–12:30 with Pulcini and Paperine from the Regional FIP Committee Emilia-Romagna.
  • Demonstration matches: 15:00–16:00 featuring the Italian Over-40 national team and Fortitudo Overlimits; further Over-40 activities will continue until 17:00.
  • Prize games: three-point contests, the Giro d’Italia challenge and quizzes for fans: 10 winners will receive two free tickets to MUBIT, redeemable the same day or later.
  • Extras: interviews on the stage at 13:30, DJ set until 22:00 and food trucks throughout the day.

Ticket holders will be admitted to the museum starting at 15:00. The opening exhibition, "Italbasket, over 100 years of an endless blue", chronicles the achievements of Italy's men's and women's national teams from the founding of the Italian Basketball Federation in 1921 to the present.

From April 19 the MUBIT will be open to the public with regular paid hours: Thursday through Monday, 11:00–18:00. The museum project is promoted by the Municipality of Bologna and the Italian Basketball Federation and is managed by Fondazione Bologna Welcome.

For further details on visiting hours and program updates, consult the museum's official channels.
