Monumenti Aperti 2026: the 30th edition reopens Italy’s treasures

From 18 April to 8 November 2026 the national event reopens monuments, historic palaces and archaeological sites across Italy. Born in Cagliari thirty years ago, it now involves more than 800 places in 18 regions, offering free openings and guided tours that reveal spaces often closed to the public.

Main sites and schedule

The program starts in spring from the Sardinian capital and unfolds month by month, with regional highlights and special openings in towns and territories.

  • Sardinia: Tuvixeddu Punic Necropolis (Cagliari) and other key openings.
  • Aosta Valley: crypt of Saint-Léger in Aymavilles.
  • Liguria: Quiliano.
  • Piedmont: historic views in Pinerolo.
  • Campania: pre-Roman sites in Benevento.
  • June: events in Perugia; September resumes from Gravellona Toce.
  • October: a busy month with Turin, Ferrara, Rome, Venice and Syracuse.
  • Closing: November openings in Milan, Chieti and Bitonto.
  • Natural and contemporary routes: locations such as Pollino National Park combine nature and contemporary art.

Accessibility and format

The event keeps free admission as a core value and aims for inclusion under the slogan "Generation Monumenti Aperti". Key initiatives include Cultura senza Barriere, with dedicated accessible routes and the involvement of people with disabilities as volunteer guides. The program is complemented by Monumenti in Musica & Spettacolo, featuring performances created with schools and local organizations.

Practical information

  • Check the local calendar for exact dates and opening times: schedules vary by region and site.
  • Most events are free, but some guided visits may require booking or have limited places.
  • Verify accessibility services and options for groups and schools.

Tip: plan visits by consulting regional programs to catch temporary openings and live performance events.
