ANCI and Association of Historic Residences sign protocol in Rome
On 13 May 2026 a memorandum of understanding was signed in Rome between the Association of Historic Residences of Italy (ADSI) and the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI). The agreement, signed by ANCI president and Mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi and ADSI national president Maria Pace Odescalchi, aims to recognize historic residences as integral to Italy’s cultural identity and as a strategic lever for economic, social and tourism development in local territories.
Key objectives of the protocol include:
- integrating historic residences into local cultural and tourism plans;
- promoting dedicated itineraries and shared cultural events to encourage off-season tourism;
- developing projects with schools and universities and programmes for cultural volunteering;
- encouraging supportive measures such as administrative simplification and fiscal incentives for custodians of heritage properties.
The partners note that about 30% of historic residences are located in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants. The agreement therefore seeks to position these properties as cultural strongholds capable of supporting local economies and helping to counter depopulation.
Planned joint actions include coordinated public openings, thematic routes and educational initiatives, all intended to integrate historic residences more fully into the life and development strategies of local communities.
