Varese Cultura 2030: building a cultural ecosystem for the province

Varese Cultura 2030 is a collaborative initiative led by the Province of Varese with support from Fondazione Cariplo and a broad territorial partnership. The project aims to move from isolated cultural initiatives to a coordinated system capable of enhancing the province's cultural assets.

Main objectives include drafting a shared strategic plan, developing a digital platform to map local cultural heritage, and strengthening principal cultural hubs to promote integrated itineraries that combine culture, landscape and sustainable mobility.

• Digital mapping platform of cultural heritage, to be operational by December 2026;
• Strengthening cultural hubs and developing integrated cultural-tourism routes;
• Systemic coordination to reduce overlapping events and foster collaboration among local organizations;
• Audience engagement, with participatory design aimed at involving residents and young people.

The initiative has organized eight thematic working groups — communication, accessibility, skills development, demand stimulation, offer coordination, economic sustainability, tourism and mobility connections, environmental sustainability — each supported by an expert facilitator tasked with turning identified issues into actionable goals.

Upcoming steps include an online meeting on 18 May 2026 focused on economic, environmental and social sustainability, and a networking session on 25 May 2026. A training programme developed with the University of Insubria is scheduled for 2026 and will include public activities.

The stated priority is clear: not to create more events, but to systematize existing resources and craft a cohesive, sustainable cultural identity for the Varese area.
