Italy's tourism sector is showing signs of strain: the latest Aidit Observatory reports many travel agencies experiencing reduced sales and a zero growth forecast for 2026. Beyond economic constraints, widespread informational uncertainty is affecting travellers' decisions.
Key factors from the survey explain changing customer behaviour and shifting travel preferences.
Domenico Pellegrino, president of Aidit Federturismo Confindustria, observes that "this is not a lack of desire to travel, but a deep crisis of confidence." Agencies are therefore shifting role—becoming advisers who reassure clients and counter the fake news that are freezing bookings.
The sector faces a twofold challenge: stop the spread of disinformation that creates panic, and relaunch offers that provide operational certainty and price transparency. These steps are considered essential to regain momentum ahead of the travel season.
