Ai Weiwei at MAXXI L'Aquila: 'Aftershock' approved

The municipal council of L'Aquila has approved the exhibition project 'Ai Weiwei: Aftershock', submitted by the MAXXI Foundation as part of the initiatives for L'Aquila Italian Capital of Culture 2026. The show, to be hosted at MAXXI L'Aquila - Palazzo Ardinghelli, presents a selection of works by the artist and activist Ai Weiwei and addresses themes of memory, civic responsibility and recovery.

  • Funding: total cost €380,000, municipal contribution €50,000 from RESTART 2 funds

The municipality states that hosting an artist of international standing strengthens the city's cultural offer and visibility, with expected positive social, tourist and economic impacts. The MAXXI Foundation will be responsible for implementation and financial reporting.
