Excavations in Este's Olmo area uncover section of Roman road

Archaeological excavations are underway in the Olmo area of Este, carried out by the University of Verona with municipal coordination. Early fieldwork has revealed a Roman road segment and part of the decumanus, both in good condition.

  • Who is leading: University of Verona, supervised by the municipal administration.
  • Main finds: a stretch of Roman road and decumanus; ongoing investigations aim to locate the walls that separated the decumanus from the Forum.
  • Project goal: combine archaeological research with urban regeneration to redevelop the area between via Olmo and via Salute and create a new public park.
  • Public visits: free guided tours by university archaeologists are scheduled for May 22 and May 29; open to residents, students and visitors.

The initiative is designed to transform the space into a cultural and social hub that connects Este’s ancient past with its present community. The guided openings offer a direct chance to see discoveries and learn about archaeological fieldwork and conservation in practice.
