Museums open for Pentecost: what to see and when
During the Pentecost weekend many South Tyrol provincial museums extend opening hours and organize special visits and activities: from archaeology featuring Ötzi to exhibitions on nature, mining and tourism. Below is a concise practical guide with opening times and main highlights.
- South Tyrol Archaeological Museum — open 10:00–18:00. In addition to the permanent collection with Ötzi, the temporary exhibition Under Propaganda examines archaeology's role under 20th-century regimes.
- Provincial Mining Museum — Ridanna, Predoi and Cadipietra sites open: historic machinery is demonstrated in Ridanna; in Predoi a mining train runs into the Sant’Ignazio gallery with access to the underground climate center; Cadipietra presents miners' daily life.
- Fortezza Fortress — open 10:00–18:00. Tour the former military complex and visit current exhibitions such as Cattedrale nel deserto and Bunkerizzati. The Bunkers of South Tyrol.
- Natural Science Museum Bolzano — open 10:00–18:00. Exhibitions include Funga on fungi and the photo show Queer Nature Photography Awards, plus the permanent geology and habitats display.

- Touriseum – Provincial Museum of Tourism (Trauttmansdorff Castle, Merano) — open 09:00–19:00. Alongside the permanent exhibition are the temporary displays Paradisi modellati – Di persone e giardini and Architettura in viaggio, exploring gardens, tourism and Belle Époque architecture.

Practical tips: check whether guided tours or planetarium shows require advance booking, allow extra time for underground visits, and confirm specific holiday opening times for each site.
