"Turning to the light" opens at Villa Fiorentino: international contemporary art exhibition

On May 15 Villa Fiorentino, home of the Fondazione Sorrento, hosted the inauguration of the collective contemporary art exhibition Turning to the light. The opening attracted a large audience and institutional representatives and is part of the Sorrento Contemporary Art programme, aimed at promoting contemporary artistic practices in the coastal area.

The exhibition features around twenty artists from countries such as Japan, the United States and Austria, presenting a variety of media and visual languages. Highlights from the opening included the presentation of participation certificates and the awarding of handcrafted wooden trophies by artist Toni Wolf, inspired by the mermaid emblem of the Foundation.

• Curators and scientific committee: art historian Rossella Savarese (exhibition curator), artist and lecturer Marina Falco, and Cynthia Penna (art director and collector).
• Artists and special mentions: special mentions awarded to Brigita Huemer, Max Coppeta, Syuta Mitomo and Elvira Carrasco, the latter presenting the performance Faces Project.
• Notable works: the roster includes pieces by artists whose works are held in major international collections and museums.

Related activities and social impact

The programme includes community-focused activities such as a pilot art therapy project for local school students and exchanges between international artists and local craft practices. The exhibition also supports fundraising efforts for social initiatives in the area.
