The municipal council has approved the extension of the concession for archaeological activities at Aiano‑Torraccia di Chiusi, ensuring the continuation of the research project for 2026 and 2027 in partnership with the Université Catholique de Louvain.
The area, owned by the municipality, features a late‑antique Roman villa (dated between the 4th and 7th centuries AD) studied since 2005. The project aims to:
The economic plan forecasts an annual budget of €19,000, with €11,000 covered by the Université Catholique de Louvain and €8,000 by the Municipality of San Gimignano. Funds are earmarked mainly for restoration and site safety.
The concession renewal guarantees continuity of archaeological research and the enhancement of local heritage through a combined focus on scientific study, conservation and public value.
