"L'Archivio Angera": 40 Years of Excavations at the Civic

"L'Archivio Angera": forty years of excavation records on display

From 10 May to 6 September 2026 the Civic Archaeological Museum of Angera presents "L'Archivio Angera", an exhibition focused on decades of archaeological work at the Roman vicus and across the Basso Verbano territory.

What to see

  • Archival photographs and graphic plates documenting excavation campaigns;
  • Field notebooks, sketches and daily site records that illustrate excavation practices;
  • Cataloguing sheets and original documents related to research activities and community engagement;
  • Materials included in a recovery and digitalization project to make scientific content more accessible.

Curators and scientific contributions

The exhibition is curated by Prof. Emanuele E. Intagliata and Anna Bernardoni, with contributions from researchers and students who took part in campaigns between 1975 and 1986. The display highlights excavation methodology and the research value of archival collections.

Opening and guided visits

The inauguration is scheduled for Sunday 10 May 2026 at 16:00. Curators will present the exhibition project; interventions by scholars and local heritage representatives are planned. A guided visit led by the curators and archaeology students from the University of Milan will follow.
