The National Museum of Photography has announced the addition of several new groups of works to its permanent collection, funded by the Plan for Contemporary Art (PAC) 2025. The initiative enhances the museum's role in preserving and promoting photographic art, both Italian and international.
The new acquisitions span historical figures and emerging photographers, selected through public calls. The purchases include varied formats and previously unpublished documentary materials that deepen the museum's archival holdings.
The museum director emphasized that expanding the collection signals renewed commitment to the national photographic culture, enabling fresh exhibition narratives and research opportunities for students and specialists.
PAC 2025 funding also supports curatorial approaches that move beyond strict chronological displays, favouring thematic and cross-disciplinary presentations that integrate the new acquisitions into both permanent displays and temporary exhibitions.
The museum remains committed to conservation, study and public engagement, continuing partnerships at national and international level and investing in digital access and dissemination projects.
Upcoming initiatives include a series examining the relationship between photography and new media, alongside educational programmes aimed at younger visitors and professionals.
