When: from 18 April to 8 November 2026. The initiative provides free access to historic buildings, monuments and heritage sites across Italy with local guides and volunteers.
Monumenti Aperti 2026 spans over 800 sites in 18 regions, offering guided tours, exhibitions, shows and family activities that highlight community involvement in storytelling and heritage care.
The program starts in April from Cagliari and includes numerous towns throughout the year: notable sites include the Punic necropolis of Tuvixeddu in Cagliari, the crypt of Saint-Léger in Aymavilles, medieval corners in Pinerolo and pre-Roman remains in Benevento. Autumn openings will involve cities such as Turin, Ferrara, Syracuse, Trieste and Rome, among others.
Celebrating thirty years, Monumenti Aperti remains a community-rooted project born in Sardinia in 1997. Over the decades it has recorded millions of guided visits and broad participation from students and volunteers. The 2026 theme is "Generation Monumenti Aperti" and the visual identity features the artwork "In tasca solo pezzi di casa" by Maria Jole Serreli.
Find the updated program and local openings on the Monumenti Aperti app and the national social accounts @monumentiaperti (Facebook and Instagram). Local city or regional pages provide details on schedules, accessibility and booking requirements.
Tip: check individual event pages before you go — many visits have limited capacity and specific access instructions.
