Marsica in the cultural system of L'Aquila 2026: project presented

On 18 April 2026 in Avezzano the project "Marsica in the cultural system of L'Aquila 2026" was presented. Funded by Fondazione Carispaq, it aims to integrate the Marsica area into the initiatives linked to L'Aquila, Italian Capital of Culture 2026.

The initiative promotes slow and sustainable tourism, enhancing cultural, environmental and historical assets of the Marsica and strengthening the area's profile as a cultural destination through cooperation among institutions, cooperatives and local associations.

• Free guided visits organized around three main hubs: Alba Fucens, the Aia dei Musei in Avezzano, and the Cunicoli di Claudio.
• Main thread: the former bed of Lake Fucino, connecting major Roman works to modern agricultural transformation and local communities.
• Partners involved: the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for L'Aquila and Teramo, the municipalities of Avezzano and Massa d'Albe, Cooperativa Ambecò and the Antiquae association of Avezzano.

The presentation stressed the value of shared strategies to promote the territory, creating cultural routes that encourage responsible enjoyment of historical sites and support local communities.
