Destination Lombards: the creators' Grand Tour features the UNESCO site of Monte Sant'Angelo

A contemporary Grand Tour led by digital creators is visiting seven Lombard sites in Italy, including the UNESCO site of Monte Sant'Angelo. The initiative aims to bring historical heritage closer to a wider audience through multimedia storytelling.

Practical aims of the project:

  • Present Lombard sites in an accessible, modern format.
  • Create a cohesive narrative for a serial UNESCO site.
  • Encourage cultural engagement via reels, stories, photos and videos.

The Grand Tour stops include:

  • Cividale del Friuli
  • Brescia
  • Castelseprio
  • Spoleto
  • Campello sul Clitunno
  • Benevento
  • Monte Sant'Angelo

The initiative, called "Destination Lombards", is funded under EF2023 by the Ministry of Culture through Law 77 funds dedicated to UNESCO Sites. Five content creators are producing material designed for social channels and digital platforms, turning a dispersed heritage into a single, shareable narrative.

For visitors to Monte Sant'Angelo: the Grand Tour offers renewed insights into the site's historical and artistic significance, with emphasis on its Lombard-era role within the network of places of power (568–774 AD).

Practical tip: follow creators' updates for information on visiting hours, local events and historical notes; many digital materials are useful to consult before your visit to enrich the on-site experience.
