Dantedì 2026: Italy’s nationwide events

25 March 2026 marks Dantedì, the national day dedicated to Dante Alighieri. Schools, universities, museums and theatres are staging events to bring the Divine Comedy closer to a wide audience: reading marathons, theatrical adaptations, exhibitions and academic seminars.

Highlights from the program include:

  • Cagliari – Liceo Classico Dettori hosts a lecture on myths of pride in Ovid and Dante, aimed at students.
  • Florence – the "Prima Tornata Accademica: Dantedì" at the Villa medicea di Castello, seminars at the University of Florence on "An Idea of the Comedy," and sessions by the Accademia della Crusca on Dante's language.
  • Rome – the Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia presents the route "Hell in the World of Giulio III"; the city also hosts the 16th International Dante Festival with performances, short films and contests until 30 March.
  • Milan – at Centro Asteria the exhibition "My Paradise. Dante, prophet of hope," curated by Franco Nembrini, featuring illustrations by Gabriele Dell'Otto and guided visits for students and young audiences.
  • Naples – the University Library offers an immersive path focused on the female characters of the Divine Comedy, with theatrical interpretations set in historical sites.
  • Bologna – the University of Bologna organizes reading marathons and scholarly discussions involving students and researchers.

Dantedì 2026 underscores Dante’s lasting influence on Italian culture. The nationwide, multidisciplinary program aims to engage new generations and foster exchanges between academic research, schools and local communities.
