Meritocrazia Italia's National Direction in Milan: sport, merit and the Constitution

On Friday 27 and Saturday 28 March 2026 Meritocrazia Italia holds its National Direction meeting in Milan at the NH Machiavelli (via Lazzaretto 5). The annual gathering brings together the movement's leadership to discuss priorities and strategies, with a dedicated focus on the implications of including sport within Article 33 of the Italian Constitution.

The movement views the constitutional reference to sport's educational, social and health-promoting value as a cultural recognition that can support inclusive policies and the development of sports activities at every level.

• Opening: institutional greetings from the City of Milan and remarks by national coordinator Paola Panza.
• Introduction: Gabriella Squitieri, Minister for Merit, Tourism, Culture, Enterprise and Territory of Meritocrazia Italia.
• Legal framework: Alessandro Serrao, advisor responsible for the movement's implementing structure; Paolo Del Vecchio, State Attorney.
• Practical and managerial aspects: Carlo Buonauro (former FIGC judge), Andrea Lepore (Professor of Sports Law).
• Sport and territory: Alessia Fachechi and Simone Alberici (Lega Nazionale Dilettanti Emilia Romagna).
• Values and ethics: Ruggero Alcanterini, President of the Italian Fair Play Committee.
• Conclusions: final interview with Walter Mauriello, National President of Meritocrazia Italia. The sessions will be coordinated by journalist Saverio Montingelli.

Saturday 28 March at 9:30 AM the movement presents its first published book, Il merito della democrazia, an anthology of messages by President Mauriello. The presentation, moderated by Laura Mazza, aims to spread the movement's principles about merit in institutions, sport and society.

The meeting emphasizes practical proposals — training, targeted funding, facility management and accessibility — to turn constitutional recognition of sport into operational policies supporting grassroots sport, inclusion and public health.
