Anversa degli Abruzzi: 2nd place in the Green Village category

On 18 April 2026 the Municipality of Anversa degli Abruzzi received an award at the Borghi più belli d'Italia competition, placing second in the Green Village category. The honour recognizes the environmental and social efforts of the WWF Gole del Sagittario Reserve.

For the past 30 years the Reserve has promoted initiatives aimed at protecting the landscape and supporting community wellbeing. Notably, in 2023 the Reserve gained recognition as the first Forest Immersion Centre in Abruzzo, a programme combining outdoor activities with practices that support physical and mental wellbeing.

• Environmental protection: stewardship of the Gole del Sagittario ecosystem;
• Wellbeing in nature: forest immersion activities that involved over 300 participants in two years;
• Inclusion: efforts to remove physical, sensory and social barriers to make nature accessible to everyone;
• Institutional collaboration: initiatives supported by the municipal administration through targeted investments.

The Reserve director accepted the award on behalf of the team and the municipality, emphasizing that nature should be seen not only as a beautiful landscape to admire but as a space for care, hospitality and dignity for all people.

The recognition strengthens Anversa degli Abruzzi's standing as a village that successfully combines environmental conservation with services for community wellbeing, and it encourages further local projects focused on territory protection and social inclusion.
