Pedro Cano. Siete and Rome

When: 18 April – 7 June 2026

Where: Casino dei Principi, Musei di Villa Torlonia, Rome

Exhibition overview

This exhibition gathers more than one hundred works by Pedro Cano, bringing together two key strands of his recent production: the monochrome pictorial cycle Siete and a selection of works dedicated to the city of Rome. The project is curated by Giorgio Pellegrini with coordination by Raquel Vázquez-Dodero Fontes.

Highlights

  • Siete – presented in full on the upper floor, this monumental cycle consists of seven triptychs (Game, Work, Bicycles, Interior, Jump, Waiting, Load): 21 oil paintings on horizontal panels (120 x 180 cm) accompanied by preparatory drawings and sketches. The black-and-white palette underscores themes such as migration, labour, injustice, solidarity and human dignity.
  • Rome – on the ground floor, 48 works mainly in watercolour and seven travel sketchbooks, some previously unseen, offer an intimate and autobiographical vision of the city: classical views alongside everyday corners painted from the artist’s windows and walks.
  • Archival materials and studies that trace the creative process and the link between Cano’s sketchbooks and major works.

Why visit

The exhibition sets the universal and dramatic dimension of Siete against the lyrical, memory-laden portrayals of Rome, providing a layered reading of Cano’s practice. The layout encourages a contemplative route from the intense, large-scale works to the more intimate paper pieces.

Organization and publication

Presented with institutional partners and cultural foundations, the exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published by José Luis Montero. Museum services are provided by Zètema Progetto Cultura.

Practical information

The show runs from 18 April 2026 to 7 June 2026. Allow at least one hour to fully experience both the monumental cycle and the watercolours and sketchbooks. For up-to-date opening hours and visitor information consult the official channels of the Musei di Villa Torlonia.
