In 2026 the Museo Civico di Belluno celebrates its 150th year. A program of conferences and public talks has been arranged to trace the institution's history, highlight its collections and explore its relationship with the local community and other cultural institutions.
The series examines the museum's origins in 1876, the foundational donations (including the Giampiccoli portrait collection and Count Carlo Miari's coins and medals), and the changes it underwent over time: disasters, losses and recoveries, reconfigurations and the more recent transfer of collections to Palazzo Fulcis.
The program is aimed at scholars, enthusiasts and the general public: its purpose is to bring residents closer to their museum, strengthen community ties and reaffirm the Museo Civico as a living space for memory and debate.
The series opens on 24 April 2026 with a session on the establishment of civic museums in Veneto. Subsequent thematic talks will follow during the months up to September 2026.
Founded in the late 19th century to collect and safeguard the area's artistic and historical heritage, the Museo Civico faced challenges across the 20th century — including fires, earthquakes and dispersions — but also experienced recoveries and expansions, culminating in the transfer of collections to Palazzo Fulcis.
Organiser: Museo Civico di Belluno. Information on admission and participation will be provided by the museum ahead of each event.
