When Sound Becomes Sign — Manuela Scannavini

Spazio Sferocromia presents the first solo exhibition by Manuela Scannavini, a multidisciplinary project that connects painting, printmaking, installation and video to investigate how sound can be translated into visual signs.

The show features five large-scale paintings, several lithographs, an installation and two videos, together with sketchbooks, artist proofs and backstage photographs. The curatorial thread focuses on converting musical impulses into visual rhythm, texture and materiality.

The programme includes two video works: one directed by Jacopo Brucculeri with cinematography by Lorenzo Lattanzi and choreography by Giulia Rosolin, performed by young gymnast Sofia Biancari; the second is a video-narrative documenting the artist's creative process, voiced by Francesca Ritrovato.

Curator Eugenia Querci contributes a critical essay framing Scannavini's practice as an introspective investigation of relationships and encounters, where the music of Maestro Carmelo Travia becomes the stimulus that channels inner states into a series of rhythmically connected canvases.

Techniques and materials: mixed-media works on paper and canvas, oil and acrylic, pigments and tactile media (gesso, natural fibers, linoleum, biochar, marble powder, lotus leaves, lost-wax wax, gold leaf, fabrics). The result is an abstract, material painting conceived as an inner landscape.

An exhibition catalogue published by Al3viE (edited by Raffaella Polverini) documents Scannavini's artistic journey with critical contributions and testimonies.
