"Philosophical Zombie" is a group exhibition probing the nature of human experience and the fine line between genuine presence and its replica. The project draws on the philosophical zombie thought experiment — a being behaviorally indistinguishable from a human but lacking conscious experience — to question how representation and simulation can undermine trust in perceived reality.
The exhibition brings together works across media: painting, ceramics, installations, video, performance and photography. The featured pieces investigate relationships among authentic inner worlds, reflected states and simulated conditions, and consider the impact of technology on how experience is formed and shared.
The show references ideas from language and perception theory (for example the notion that "the map is not the territory") to highlight how mental representations filter reality. It also engages contemporary imaginaries and emerging technologies that complicate boundaries between the real and the simulated.
Conceived by Cristallo Odescalchi and curated by Alessia Simonetti, the exhibition encourages visitors to reflect on what differentiates a living presence from an impeccably convincing imitation.
