We Rise by Lifting Others: Marinella Senatore in Venice

The Human Safety Net House, a cultural and social inclusion hub on the third floor of the Procuratie in Piazza San Marco, presents We Rise by Lifting Others, a site-specific project by Marinella Senatore. The installation stems from a collaboration between the movement’s social mission and the artist’s participatory practice, centering on the voices and experiences of families supported by partner NGOs.

The project complements A World of Potential, an interactive permanent exhibition that maps individual strengths. Senatore’s work translates workshop-generated material into tangible forms: shared narratives, images and texts that make potential visible through lived stories.

Works and visual language

The exhibition features a four-metre-high luminaria and six tapestries. Both are directly informed by the materials produced during participatory workshops: words, images, wishes and memories shaped into collective imagery.

• Luminaria: a relational light structure echoing southern Italian festival lights and baroque decorative devices; it incorporates vegetal motifs and workshop-generated phrases, topped by a fish motif symbolising passage and continuity.
• Tapestries: narrative textiles inspired by baroque engravings, medieval miniatures and Japanese illustration; embroidered texts and stylised figures narrate personal and communal hopes. They were produced by the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai.

Co-creation and workshops

The work arises from a co-creative process carried out between December 2025 and January 2026 with three NGO partners in the Families programme. The collaboration engaged communities in Warsaw, Mestre and Palermo, using writing, movement and shared sessions to activate individual and collective resources.

Throughout the exhibition Marinella Senatore will hold workshops open to the public, including two sessions on somatic movement and one focused on Body Sound, where voice, breath and movement are used to build a collective sound composition.
