On Friday, 8 May 2026 at 10:45, Libreria Bruno in Venice will host the presentation of Jimmie Durham. PoesiePoems, published by NERO Editions with the support of Ghella. The event is part of the Morning Rituals series.
The bilingual volume (English/Italian) gathers a broad selection of Jimmie Durham's poems drawn from Columbus Day (1983), Poems That Do Not Go Together (2012) and Particle / Word Theory (2020). Translated into Italian by Sacha Piersanti, the book also includes unpublished texts and drawings from the artist's archive, tracing the multifaceted nature of his practice.
Born in Arkansas in 1940 and active until 2021, Durham was an artist, poet, performer and activist whose work crossed sculpture, installation, performance and writing. The presentation will focus on the interplay between poetry and visual practice.
The presentation is part of the three-year LAVINIA programme, which supports contemporary art projects connected to the restoration of the Loggia dei Vini in Rome. Taking place during the Biennale Arte 2026 preview week, the event is an opportunity to consider the role of poetic language within contemporary artistic practices.
