Valle delle Sfingi: a landscape of myth and geology

Autore: Redazione 31/08/2025 16:18

In the province of Verona, a place that seems straight out of a mythological tale opens up in the heart of Lessinia. A unique natural site famous for its rock formations: we are talking about the Valle delle Sfingi (Valley of the Sphinxes), imposing stone monoliths that take on bizarre and mysterious shapes, recalling human and animal figures, as well as fantastic creatures.

One particular rock is the reason for the valley's name. In fact, its silhouette resembles that of the Sphinx. Other stone-carved figures gather around it. Everyone can find a shape in the rocks they look at.

Walking among these stone monoliths means immersing yourself in a place between science and legend. The Valley of the Sphinxes is reachable from Camposilvano, a small village in Lessinia, and is easily traversed. The atmosphere you breathe is that of a silent natural sanctuary, interrupted only by the rustling of the wind and the singing of birds.

The valley also has a strong cultural significance, in addition to the natural charm it offers. For centuries, these formations have inspired folk tales and legends, but have also attracted scholars of these phenomena.

Visiting the Valle delle Sfingi means immersing yourself in a world that seems enchanted, fairy-tale-like, and different from the usual mountain landscapes seen in Veneto.
