Valle delle Ferriere: the hidden jungle of the Amalfi Coast

Autore: Redazione 21/08/2025 17:23

Amalfi is not only glamour and enchanting villages, but also fragrant lemon groves and wild nature. Hidden among waterfalls and crystal clear streams is a green paradise, the Valle delle Ferriere, one of the most surprising stretches of the coast.

Despite the huge mass tourism that characterizes Amalfi, this little corner of paradise still retains all its integrity. The name, Ferriere, derives from the fact that iron was once worked there, thanks to the energy of the flowing water.

In fact, walking along the paths, you skirt clear streams and walk among old medieval mills and ironworks. You can get there from Amalfi or the village of Pontone. Many prehistoric plant species are preserved here, such as Woodwardia radicans, which is a true living fossil, as well as rare plants and tropical ferns. However, the air is not muggy but very fresh, thanks to the roaring waterfalls that cool the air even in summer.

The landscape is characterized by numerous natural pools and spectacular views. It seems, in fact, to belong to another continent, far from Italy and the coastline we all know. Walking through the Valle delle Ferriere means immersing yourself in the purest and most unspoiled nature. It is not just an excursion, but a true naturalistic photograph, a moment to return to peace with life. A moment to return to peace with oneself in a place where one often loses touch with reality.

At the end of the trail, you can either return to Amalfi or continue towards Ravello or Scala. And this too will provide many emotions. The fact that it is located near one of the most visited places in Italy, the Amalfi Coast, makes it a much more special place than it would be otherwise. Just a stone's throw from luxury, this glimpse of nature and mystery is hidden away, a true hidden wonder.
