The Val di Funes (Funes Valley) is one of those places that looks like it came straight out of a painting, with its majestic mountains and green meadows. It is situated at the foot of the Odle Group, in the heart of South Tyrol (Alto Adige), and is one of the region's most famous symbols.
The small church of San Giovanni in Ranui is a true emblem of the Valley, with its simple lines set against the imposing backdrop of the Dolomites. It is stunning to photograph from above, with the green background.
The Valley is a paradise for hikers, as the trails lead right to the foot of the Odle peaks, where you can breathe pure air and find a sense of peace. In summer, the mountain huts (malghe) of Val di Funes also offer delicious stops for fresh cheese, speck, and homemade bread. In autumn, the Valley comes alive with the Torggelen, a traditional South Tyrolean event that offers the chance to taste new wine. Val di Funes is not just about nature and gastronomy; it is also a custodian of ancient traditions.
Villages like Santa Maddalena retain an authentic atmosphere, where the Ladin language is still spoken. Visiting the Val di Funes means taking home the image of a living postcard.
