Historic trains 2026 in Friuli Venezia Giulia: 38 rides to discover villages
From 12 April to 20 December 2026, a programme of 38 historic train rides returns to Friuli Venezia Giulia. Designed to highlight villages, historic centres, natural landscapes and sites of memory, the initiative promotes slow travel and sustainable tourism while offering thematic itineraries for culture, food, and local traditions.
What the programme offers

- Number of rides: 38 thematic journeys combining established routes and new proposals.
- Services: special fares, the option to bring a bicycle on board, guided visits and family activities on selected departures.
- Objective: to enhance small towns and historical centres and support local communities through experiential tourism.

- 2 May – historic Alpini train of the reconstruction (Treviso > Pinzano al Tagliamento).
- 3 May and 13 September – historic train to UNESCO towns (Palmanova and Cividale).
- 10 May – Fortresses train (Sacile, Gorizia, Gradisca d'Isonzo) with multimedia visits.
- 19 May – Garden train (Trieste > Sacile).
- 28 June and 16 August – Border historic train, exploring frontier history and identity.
- 5 July – special connection for Folkest.
- 12 July – Dolomiti Friulane train (Udine > Montereale Valcellina > Barcis).
- 30 August and 6 September – medieval village trains with events in Sesto al Reghena, Cordovado and Valvasone.
- 20 September – abbeys, vineyards and hills train for Cormons Grape Festival.

- 5 December – Krampus train; 8 December – nativity scenes and Christmas markets train.
- 20 December – new: Castles and mosaics historic train with a stop in Spilimbergo.
