Targa Florio 110: the historic race becomes a citywide festival

The 110th edition of the Targa Florio was presented in Palermo: this year the race is relaunched as an event that blends sport, culture, education and research. The initiative stems from renewed cooperation between the University of Palermo and ACI Sport, aiming to engage the city, students and enthusiasts with a varied programme.

Period: from 12 to 16 May 2026. The university campus in Viale delle Scienze will serve as headquarters and service centre, hosting the finish line and the award ceremony on the afternoon of Saturday 16 May.

• 12 May – the campus is converted into a village dedicated to motor culture; the Museum of Engines and Mechanisms opens with a session on hybrid powertrain technologies.
• 13 May – sporting and technical checks; guided visits (Villino Florio) and a seminar on performance and health; at 18:30 an event marking the 50th anniversary of the 1976 victory.
• 14 May, 20:00 – start ceremony in Piazza Verdi, in front of the Teatro Massimo.
• 16 May – races finish and prize-giving at the university campus.

The programme covers several competitive categories (Italian Absolute Rally Championship Sparco, historic rally championships and regularity, regional Cup) and a rich cultural agenda: exhibitions from private collectors, educational installations (including a dissected car to explain the Super Hybrid System) and seminars focused on historical memory and technological innovation.

Organisers say Targa Florio 2026 aims to strengthen the bond between the university and the territory, promoting the university's third mission and offering outreach and engagement opportunities for new generations.
