The municipal council of L’Aquila has approved the strategic project “AI-QUILA – Intelligences and culture for the territory”, promoted by Fondazione Magna Carta and part of L’Aquila Italian Capital of Culture 2026.
The initiative aims to leverage artificial intelligence as a tool for cultural and territorial development, engaging schools, universities and communities across the earthquake-affected area. The programme combines culture, innovation and participation in a widespread local pathway.
According to the municipal press release, the project seeks to promote digital skills, encourage creative experimentation and strengthen cooperation between educational institutions and the territory to produce tangible, lasting impacts.
The mayor highlighted that artificial intelligence is «an extraordinary opportunity to rethink cultural and development models for internal areas», placing young people and digital competencies at the centre.
