Polignano a Mare pays tribute to Domenico Modugno

From April 17 to 19 Polignano a Mare revives its singer-songwriter tradition with "Polignano a Mare City of Music" and the three-day event "In the name of Domenico Modugno: songwriter, cinema, beloved places." The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Polignano a Mare in collaboration with the Apulia Region and Puglia Culture, under the artistic direction of Stefano Senardi, and involves the Club Tenco and the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Cineteca Nazionale.

All events are free and open to the public, combining musical performances, film screenings, talks and guided visits to sites linked to the artist, with the aim of strengthening territorial networks and promoting songwriter culture among younger audiences.

Main program highlights

• April 17 – 16:00 opening meeting for music school students; 19:00 official inauguration at the Pino Pascali Museum and 19:30 concert by Syria with Massimo Germini in tribute to Modugno.
• April 18 – 12:00 signing of the collaboration agreement between Polignano a Mare, San Pietro Vernotico and Lampedusa e Linosa at the Raffaele Chiantera Community Library; afternoon talks at Multisala Vignola, a focus on Modugno as actor with the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, and presentation of Cantautori nelle scuole; evening screening of Nel blu, dipinto di blu (1959).
• April 19 – morning band parade along the seafront dedicated to Modugno, led by Renzo Rubino; afternoon visit to San Pietro Vernotico to explore locations tied to his artistic development.

The event also includes guided tours of Modugno's landmark sites and marks the start of an annual program, with further appointments planned for September, aiming to establish Polignano a Mare as a reference hub for songwriter culture.
