FAI Days in Sesto Calende: strong turnout and new excavations announced

Sesto Calende recorded higher-than-expected attendance during the FAI Spring Days on the weekend of 21–22 March. Visits focused on three main heritage sites that highlight the area's archaeological and cultural roots.

  • Archaeological Museum: 98 visitors on Saturday.
  • Oratory of San Vincenzo: 461 visitors across the weekend.
  • Abbey of San Donato: peak attendance of 630 entries, the most visited site.

The openings were organised by the local FAI group with support from associations and schools. Students from the "Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa" tourism high school acted as guides, praised for their expertise and communication, enhancing the educational offer for visitors.

At the Oratory of San Vincenzo a conference titled "The hidden heritage of Sesto Calende" brought together university researchers and heritage historians. During the event organisers announced the resumption of field research: a new excavation campaign in the San Vincenzo area is scheduled to begin in May.

Practical implications and opportunities:

  • New fieldwork should expand knowledge of the site's origins and development, potentially leading to updated exhibitions and educational programmes.
  • Continued cooperation among local institutions, associations and schools will support the enhancement of site access and interpretation.
  • Those interested in participating in excavation work or future guided visits should monitor official channels for dates and participation details.

For practical information on openings and educational activities, check announcements from the FAI and local organisations.
