The recent excavation season in Policoro, conducted by Humboldt‑Universität zu Berlin in collaboration with the Museo Nazionale della Siritide and the Parco Archeologico di Herakleia, concluded successfully with an open day titled "Archeo‑Trekking on Castle Hill".
The event offered a guided walk through the archaeological park, presenting ongoing research and the historical development of the site. It served as a public outreach opportunity to bring local residents and visitors closer to archaeological practice.
Exploration of previously under‑investigated sectors of the hill highlighted both research potential and scenic interest. Material processing and analysis will continue in academic facilities, and planning for next season's fieldwork is already underway.
The deputy mayor expressed gratitude to the researchers, emphasizing the project's role in reconstructing Policoro's history and its potential to promote cultural growth and sustainable tourism in the area.
