Strongoli: Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul featured in FAI Days

Strongoli takes part in the FAI Spring Days with a guided route through its historic centre, highlighting the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul and other heritage sites. The event, organized with local partners, aims to promote the village's history and art through guided visits led by trained students.

What to see

• Piazza Vinci and the church of San Francesco (1604), the meeting point for the tour;
• Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul: 12th-century Romanesque core with later Baroque additions; interior houses notable paintings attributed to Francesco De Mura or a follower;
• Strongoli Castle, overlooking the town from the hilltop, historically defensive and residential;
• The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie (16th century), featuring a Neoclassical façade and 17th-century maiolica flooring;
• The church of San Giuseppe (also called the Purgatory church) and Santa Maria della Sanità (1613) with the adjacent civic clock tower preserving its original manual mechanism;
• Piazza Giunti and period palaces, plus a stroll through the narrow streets to experience the village atmosphere.

Who leads the tours

Tours will be conducted by Apprendisti Ciceroni—students from the Istituto Omnicomprensivo "B. Miraglia" in Strongoli and the Liceo Classico "D. Borrelli" in Santa Severina—trained by the FAI to guide visitors and share insights on local history and art.

Practical information

• Dates and times: Saturday, March 21 from 9:30 to 12:00; Sunday, March 22 from 9:30 to 12:00 and 14:30 to 16:00.
• Free transport: buses provided by Autolinee Romano will depart from the bus station at 9:00 with return scheduled for 13:30.
• Participation: free but reservation required by March 19 by emailing [email protected].
• Partners: Municipality of Strongoli, local parish, Pro Loco and Rotary Club of Strongoli.

The visits are a practical chance to explore the village's artistic and historical heritage, including sites not usually open to the public. Arrive a few minutes early and check the Delegation FAI of Crotone and Santa Severina channels for any updates.
