Donn'Anna Beach: a tale of history and sea

Autore: Redazione 21/08/2025 17:21

At the foot of the majestic Palazzo Donn'Anna lies a small beach where the history of the city intertwines with the beauty of the sea. It is one of the very few sandy beaches in Naples and is still very popular today with those who want to spend a relaxing day at the seaside.

Palazzo Donn'Anna

The history surrounding the palace overlooking the beach is fascinating and evocative. Legend has it that on full moon nights, in the palace, now inhabited (among the lucky ones is soccer player Dries Mertens), you can still hear the screams of Duchess Anna Carafa, after whom the building is named. Myths aside, the palace offers a picturesque view and gives a sense of protection to anyone visiting the beach, shielding it from the sea winds.

The beach

The beach is not large, but it has several beach establishments and a free beach called ‘Lido delle Monache’. In low season, it is not very crowded, but to avoid problems, in August it can only be accessed by booking on the website of the municipality of Naples, and it can accommodate a maximum of 500 people. You can access the beach through the entrances of the beach establishments there, such as the “Bagno Ideal,” one of the oldest and most iconic beaches in Posillipo. The establishment offers numerous quality services, such as sunbeds and umbrellas at an affordable price, as well as a high-end bar, which is also very popular in the evening for aperitifs or elegant dinners, ideal for romantic dates with a view of the sea.

The sea

The sea is clear and transparent and offers breathtaking views, especially at sunrise and sunset. Here, the most authentic Naples reveals itself to those who know how to appreciate it, protected by the grandeur of the Palace.

Donn'Anna beach invites you to discover a rare, almost mystical side of Naples, right in the center of the city.
