Spiaggia delle Due Sorelle: the hidden paradise of the Conero

Autore: Redazione 30/09/2025 20:50

The ferry gently sways on the waves while the Conero coast flows by like a slow-motion film. Then, behind a wall of dazzling white rock that plunges vertically into the sea, it appears: the Spiaggia delle Due Sorelle (Beach of the Two Sisters), so perfect it seems unreal, a corner of paradise torn from the world and jealously hidden by the mountain.

The two twin sea stacks emerge from the crystalline turquoise water like sentinels of stone, white and smoothed by the salt and wind, identical yet unique in their rounded shapes. They give their name to this magical place, watching over the beach of polished white pebbles that glistens in the sun like an expanse of natural pearls. As the ferry approaches the shore, the contrast is breathtaking: the blinding white of the limestone cliff, the deep, intense blue of the Adriatic Sea, the emerald green of the shallow water where the pebbles create hypnotic shades.

Stepping onto the beach means entering a suspended dimension. The pebble underfoot is warm, smooth, pleasantly round—millennia of waves have polished it to perfection. The water is disarmingly transparent: you dive in and can see every stone on the bottom, every silver fish swimming curiously around your legs, every ray of sun penetrating and creating dancing beams of light in the depths. The temperature is ideal and welcoming, refreshing without freezing, inviting you to swim for hours among emerging rocks and hidden coves.

The Conero cliff looms over the beach like a protective giant, its vertical ivory walls punctuated by the deep green of the Mediterranean scrub that bravely clings to the fissures: twisted junipers, resilient holm oaks, and wild rosemary bushes that scent the air with resinous aromas mixed with pure saltiness. In the hottest hours, this intoxicating smell—sea, hot stone, aromatic herbs—creates an olfactory symphony that is the very essence of a summer in the Marche region.

The call of the seagulls echoes between the rock walls, mixing with the gentle lapping of the waves on the pebbles, creating a natural, relaxing soundtrack. Here, isolated from the world and reachable only by sea or via steep, adventurous trails, time slows down until it stops.

How to Get There

  • Ferry: From Numana or Sirolo (15–20 minutes, summer only).
  • Alternative: Very steep hiking trail from the Sirolo parking area (1 hour, experts only).
  • Note: It's a free beach; bring your own water and food. Ideal from June to September.
