From 31 March to 6 September 2026, the Museo di Arti Decorative Accorsi‑Ometto in Turin presents a major retrospective devoted to Giovanni Antonio Bazzi, known as Sodoma. The exhibition reconstructs the artist's training and creative development, with a focus on early works and the influences that shaped his style.
Organized by Serena D'Italia, Luca Mana and Vittorio Natale, the exhibition brings together more than fifty works, many unpublished or rarely shown. The display highlights Sodoma's youthful production and the key stages of his artistic development, illustrating his relationships with workshops and patrons.
The show is arranged in seven chronological and thematic sections that guide visitors through the artist's main career phases:
Notable works on display include the Holy Family with Saint John the Baptist and an Angel (recently attributed to the young Sodoma), two rare Pietà on loan from Roman collections, the tondo with the Holy Family and the young St John, and the Death of Lucretia. Important loans come from institutions such as Accademia Carrara, Pinacoteca di Brera, the Vatican Museums, Galleria Borghese and the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Siena.
This exhibition is a valuable opportunity to study the formation and stylistic evolution of a central figure of the Italian Renaissance: the selection of unpublished works and comparative loans from major museums reveal the complexity and innovative character of Sodoma's pictorial language.
