Nick Brandt at Gallerie d'Italia: "The Day May Break"

Gallerie d'Italia in Turin hosts Nick Brandt's project The Day May Break from 18 March to 6 September 2026. The exhibition gathers 63 powerful large-format photographs that explore climate breakdown and environmental loss through intimate portraits of people and animals affected by these changes.

The show brings together the complete series, organised into four geographic chapters that each highlight a different facet of the global ecological emergency.

  • Chapter One — Kenya and Zimbabwe: images that juxtapose environmental refugees and animals rescued from poaching.
  • Chapter Two — Bolivia: a visual investigation into biodiversity threatened by fires and drought.
  • Chapter Three — Fiji: including underwater scenes that foreshadow land loss due to rising sea levels.
  • Chapter Four — Jordan: a commissioned chapter portraying the resilience of Syrian refugee families facing water scarcity.

Brandt's method is notable for its careful, hands-on process: long preparation periods and collaboration with local communities shape the work. His framing often places humans and animals in the same scene, producing suspended, formally refined images that intensify the subject's drama.
