Genius Loci: Prato Museums Network highlights Etruscan heritage

The Prato Museums Network has launched “Genius Loci. Vitality of the Etruscan spirit”, a collaborative project that brings together museums, scientific expertise and cultural programmes to showcase Etruscan heritage. The schedule runs through June and includes exhibitions, hands-on workshops, lectures, publications, music events and outdoor walks.

The initiative aims to provide a multidisciplinary interpretation of Etruscan legacy by combining archaeological research, contemporary art and educational activities suitable for all ages. It enhances both permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, as well as recent restoration work.

• Archaeological Museum of Artimino: renewed display dedicated to the princely tumulus of Montefortini, exhibition of over 80 restored ivory items, plus conference series and workshops.
• Soffici and 20th Century Museum: contemporary art exhibition “Archeo-inganni. Etruscan echoes and reflections of antiquity” featuring works from public and private collections.
• Mumat of Vernio: a three-stage exhibition focused on weaving and dyeing in the Etruscan era.
• Casa Museo Leonetto Tintori: exploration of painting techniques and pigments used by ancient artisans.
• Italian Museum of Planetary Sciences: projects examining the cosmic beliefs and celestial references in Etruscan culture.
• Center for Natural Sciences: workshops on Etruscan divination practices, especially bird flight observation.
• Badia di Vaiano Museum: research and activities on Etruscan food culture and tastes.
• Deportation Museum: exhibitions tracing the myth of the “First Italy” and its later historical appropriations.
