Skyway Monte Bianco – the cable car on the borders of the sky

Autore: Redazione 01/08/2025 13:42

Skyway Monte Bianco, a 360° experience among extreme nature.

Starting from Courmayeur, Skyway Monte Bianco is much more than a cable car: it is an architectural masterpiece, custom-designed to take visitors on a vertical journey up to Punta Helbronner, at 3,466 meters above sea level, where it feels almost possible to touch the sky. At the departure station, visitors will find refreshment points for breakfast or a quick lunch, large bus parking areas, and a luggage deposit with lockers.

The system – renovated in 2015 with an investment of 110 million euros – features rotating cabins, allowing a full panoramic view of the Mont Blanc massif during the ascent.

The first stop is Pavillon The Mountain (2,173 m), home to the Saussurea Alpine Botanical Garden, one of the highest in Europe. Visitors will find rest areas such as the Mountain Bar and the Ristorante Alpino, as well as a Cinema Hall that can accommodate up to 148 people. During this first stop, in winter, it is also possible to enjoy a snow walk at the Campo Ciaspole.

The second stop is Punta Helbronner / The Sky: from there, through a suspended circular terrace, the view extends from the Matterhorn to the Gran Paradiso, from Monte Rosa to the Dente del Gigante.

Not to be missed is the spectacular crystal gallery of Italy’s highest mountain inside the Monte Bianco Hall.

Here, visitors can choose to continue the experience with Sky Vertigo, for the sensation of walking in the void, or enjoy a quick meal at the Kartell Bistrot Panoramic.

Hours and information

Departures occur every 15 minutes, with great regularity and punctuality. To avoid waiting at the ticket offices, tickets can be purchased online up to one hour before departure, selecting the ascent time from Courmayeur to Punta Helbronner. Online booking is free and ensures a smooth flow of visitors.

It is mandatory to arrive at the departure station at least 15 minutes before the reserved ascent time.

Once at Punta Helbronner, visitors must respect a maximum stay of 1 hour and 30 minutes, calculated from the time of ascent. This limit does not apply to the intermediate stop at Pavillon The Mountain, which remains open and without time restrictions.

Exceptions to the time limit include the so-called “Skynauts”, i.e., mountaineers and visitors holding vouchers for gastronomic experiences, who may stay longer at the summit.

No reservation is required for the descent, either from Punta Helbronner or from Pavillon; simply wait for the next available cabin.

Schedules may change in case of adverse weather conditions or technical needs. It is therefore recommended to always check the official website before visiting.

How to get there

The departure point is in Entrèves, a hamlet of Courmayeur. From the A5 Courmayeur motorway exit, it takes just 5 minutes by car to reach the multi-story parking area (paid) at the departure station. For those traveling without a car, local shuttle buses run from Courmayeur town center or the main bus station.

A high-altitude attraction

You don’t need to be a mountaineer to look down on the clouds — only the desire to be amazed. And on Skyway Monte Bianco, even those afraid of heights lose their breath, but only because of the beauty.
