Sila Grande and Lake Arvo: the green heart of Calabria

Autore: Redazione 21/08/2025 16:39

If you are looking for a place in Calabria far from the hustle and bustle of the coast, where nature reigns supreme with its silence, then Sila Grande is the ideal destination. Nestled among forests of larch pines, the Sila Grande plateau seems suspended between heaven and earth, creating a unique landscape.

Lake Arvo, one of the jewels of Sila, shines like an alpine mirror, offering something rarely found in Calabria. The tranquil shores of the lake come alive in summer, with picnic areas and trails always full of hikers.

The lake itself is also overflowing with people in canoes and pedal boats. In winter, however, the plateau is covered in snow, transforming it into a dreamlike postcard. Also worth appreciating are the caciocavallo silano cheese, porcini mushrooms, and Sila potatoes, which can be tasted in this corner of Calabria. Every visit thus becomes a small refreshment and an introduction to Calabrian culture.

The Sila Grande and Lake Arvo are therefore two experiences not to be missed if you want to visit a more hidden side of Calabria, far from what you would usually expect to find in a seaside region like the one we all know. Here you can regenerate your mind and body, finding a place that is different from those we usually hear about and associate with Calabria.
