Köfele Trail – Meltina/Meran, Bolza

Autore: Redazione 31/08/2025 16:06

Amid forests, meadows, and panoramic views of the Salto Plateau, the Köfele Trail is a playful and nature-themed route designed to offer children — and adults alike — a fun outdoor adventure that combines hiking and imagination. Stretching for about 3 km, it alternates flat stretches with gentle climbs and descents, featuring six play-stops that stimulate curiosity, movement, and creativity.

The trail begins in the picturesque village of Meltina, halfway between Bolzano and Merano. From the free parking area near the fire station, a short 5-minute walk leads to the start of trail no. 1 — and the adventure begins. The first encounter is with a large wooden Haflinger horse, perfect for climbing and playing.

The path continues through meadows with open views of the village until you reach the treehouse, equipped with a fun “acoustic phone” that lets you talk to those on the ground. After a short downhill stretch comes the mini climbing wall, where ropes and grips let young explorers safely test their balance and climbing skills.

Next is one of the trail’s highlights: the giant wooden man, which kids can climb up to the head before sliding down through two giant slides that form his legs — an unmissable attraction and a true favorite among visitors.

From here, you can either descend toward the Vilpiano–Meltina cable car station and then return uphill to Salonetto, or follow a short flat section directly to the same village.

Useful information

Located on the Salto Plateau (Meltina – South Tyrol) at about 1,000 m of altitude, the hike takes around 1 hour 30 minutes (excluding stops). It is not suitable for strollers, and there are no refreshment points along the trail — only a small café back in the village.

The Köfele Trail is ideal in spring and summer, when blooming meadows and mild temperatures make the walk even more enjoyable. Perfect for families with curious children who love to explore, it only requires comfortable shoes and a good dose of adventurous spirit.
