Scala dei Turchi: where white meets blue

Autore: Redazione 28/08/2025 10:21

On the Agrigento Coast, nature has sculpted one of its most surprising works: the Scala dei Turchi (Stair of the Turks), a white marl cliff whose contrast immediately strikes you, resembling a staircase suspended over the azure Mediterranean Sea. The blinding white of the rock appears painted by an invisible artist.

The name is rooted in history, as it is said that in the 16th century, Saracen pirates, by then called "Turks" by the locals, found a safe harbor in this bay for their raids. Thus, the cliff is not only a natural wonder but also a landscape that tells a story.

Walking on the steps of the Scala dei Turchi is like moving within this ancient narrative. It is a place that invites you to experience it with all your senses. Walking barefoot on the smooth, cool surface might be a bit slippery, perhaps, but it provides an almost surreal sensation in a dazzling setting.

In fact, it has often been chosen as a backdrop for films and series that have introduced the beauty of the Sicilian coast to the world. Sunset brings the most magical moment, as the cliff is tinged with pink and orange, and the sea seems to light up with golden reflections.

It is a place that captivates, inviting you to stop and contemplate.
