Roberti: Montenegro's EU entry offers opportunities for Friuli Venezia Giulia

During an institutional visit to Kotor (Montenegro) on 29 April 2026, regional councillor Pierpaolo Roberti stressed that the accelerated negotiations for Montenegro's accession to the EU could strengthen cultural ties and cross-Adriatic cooperation.

• Cultural cooperation: Roberti emphasized the importance of preserving the deep historical and cultural roots linking Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Italian communities in Montenegro.
• Italian communities: He highlighted support for the nine active sections in Montenegro and the work of the Union of Italian Communities of Montenegro.
• Role of the University of Trieste: Described as a bridge with Kotor since 2004 and a driver of initiatives to keep Italian language and culture alive in the area.

Planned initiatives include a traveling multimedia exhibition, due to open in early 2027, on the evolving relations between Italy and the Bay of Kotor from the Serenissima era to the 20th century, together with photographic and engraving exhibitions to promote the shared cultural heritage.
