Popular University of Trieste strengthens cultural ties with the Adriatic‑Balkan area

The Popular University of Trieste reaffirmed its role as a cultural bridge between Italy and the Adriatic‑Balkan area during institutional visits to Kotor and Split. The initiative, ongoing since 2004, aims to support the language, identity and cultural activities of Italian communities across the region.

  • In Kotor, the delegation led by President Edvino Jerian and Secretary General Fabrizio Somma met Mayor Vladimir Jokić, Aleksandar Dender (president of the Union of Italian Communities of Montenegro) and local high‑school students active in promoting Italian language and culture.
  • The visit coincided with the XXI annual assembly of the Union of Italian Communities of Montenegro, attended by Italy’s Ambassador to Podgorica, Andreina Marsella, and saw the reconfirmation of Dender for the next four‑year term.
  • Planned projects include an itinerant multimedia exhibition (scheduled to open in early 2027) on historical ties between Italy and the Bay of Kotor, plus a photo‑editorial exhibition and a show of engravings by Emiliano Edera.
  • In Split the delegation attended the inauguration of the new premises of the Italian Community, a move that involved cataloguing and relocating over 4,000 volumes and strengthening local cultural activities.

Regional councillor Pierpaolo Roberti emphasized the institutional commitment to protecting historical and cultural roots, while the Popular University of Trieste highlighted its aim to enhance shared heritage and create opportunities for younger generations.
