An Italian group of young operators has started a cooperation project with the community of Semmama in the Tunisian governorate of Kasserine, outlining a new model of territorial resilience linking two Mediterranean rural areas: the Murgia plateau and Semmama mountain.
Led by the collective Avrusc, founded by seven young Italians, the initiative combines agricultural practices, artistic creation, artisanal knowledge and community development activities. The promoters describe the two areas as «sister» territories: peripheral yet rich in social and cultural capital.
The name Avrusc, inspired by the asphodel of the Murgia, was chosen as a symbol of continuity and adaptability for the involved territories. The project seeks to build lasting relationships and to give visibility to often marginalised inland areas, within a broader Italy–Tunisia cooperation framework for local development.
